The Aristo is a mid size luxury sedan, now known as the Lexus GS. It was first introduced in 1991 in Japan with the name Aristo and was sold wit this name in Japan until 2006. Its name was later changed to Lexus GS as the Lexus marque, the luxury car division of Toyota was introduced in the country. Aristo was discontinued after its 2005 model
The GS and the Aristo differed in the type of engine and the transmission technology. The Aristo was introduced as a sports sedan in line with the Mercedes E class and the 5-series of BMW.
The first generation Aristo was produced from 1991 till 1997. The design was made by the famous Giorgetto Giugiaro of the Italdesign Sudios of Italy. The car featured a monocoque body with a double wishbone independent suspension. Aristo was introduced with two versions, the R6 and 3.0 Q. The R6 came with with a 3.0 L engine with 276 horses under the hood. It featured a twin turbo, 2jz-GTE engine with 24 valves. The 3.0 Q also featured a 3000 CC 2JZ-GE engine with a power output of 226 HP.
The second generation Aristo was introduced in 1998 and lasted till 2005. The performance of the car is one of the best in its class. The new car featured a better interior space and handling owing to the reduction of the corner overhangs. The wheelbase was also extended. Although the same engines were used as in the previous models, they featured the new VVTi engine and VSC and ARS stability control features.
The third generation was introduced in 2006. It has 3 versions, 3.0 L V6 and 3.5L V6, GS 300 and the massive 4.3 L V8 engine of GS 430.
