Aurion is a large sized sedan, first introduced in the 2006 Melbourne Motor Show. It is manufactured by the Australian division of Toyota. The sedan is also marketed as Toyota Camry in many countries of Asia. The car belongs to the segment which includes the likes of Honda Accord, Nissan Maxima and the Ford Falcon. The car was introduced in Australia as a successor to Avalon, also a large sedan. The car was designed by Nick Hogios who left Ford Australia for Toyota Australia to work on the car as the chief designer. This was the first car that was designed entirely by Toyota Australia, taking in mind the Australian requirements. The car is also sold in Taiwan, Philippines and China as Toyota Camry. Toyota Aurion comes with two types of design models. The upmarket AT-X, Presara and Prodigy and the sporty Sportivo SX6and ZR6. The AT-X has a 3.5L V6 engine of type 2GR-FE with a six speed automatic gear box. It come s at a price range of Aud$ 35,000. The Sportivo is the sportier cousin of the AT-X having the same engine and drive train. It is priced at AUD$38,500. The Prodigy also has the same engine and drive train as the AT-X but has an addition of 16" alloy wheels, woodgrain finish, leather seats, chrome grille, power front seats, etc. It is more expensive at AUD$39,500. The Presara, priced at AUD$50,000, is targeted at the premium section. In addition to Prodigy's feature, it boasts of satellite navigation, moonroof, rear camera, push start button, smart entry, 17" alloy wheels and other electronic features of premium luxury cars. Another version called the TRD is due to arrive in 2007. It has even more sportier looks and performance. It was introduced as sports concept in the Australian International Motor Show 2006. The car boasts of upgraded suspension, integrated exhaust pipes, front and rear air diffusers, sporty 20" alloy wheels among others. The car is expected to have a 3.5L V6 engine giving an output of 250 KW. |
