Toyota Avalon is a full sized four door sedan from the Toyota production line in USA. The car was launched in 1995 and is in production till date, with the latest version being launched in 2007.
The Avalon is a front wheel drive. It was introduced as a successor to the Cressida. The car was also launched in Australia in 2000 but was discontinued in 2005. The the first gen Avalon, launched in 1994, boasted of a 3.0 L V6 engine and a 4 speed automatic gearbox. The engine gave a power of 192 bhp with a torque of 210 ft/lb. The 1998 version was similar withal few cosmetic changes in the design and an increase in power to 200hp at a max torque of 214 ft/lb.
The second generation Avalon came out in 2000. It was larger than the previous version with an increase in length, width and height. The car had the same 3.0 L 1MZ-FE v6 engine. It was marketed with XL and the XLS models. The distinguishing feature of the new Avalon was the introduction of a 115volt power inverter, that came built-in. This feature was the of first of its kind in a car.
The third gen Avalon was launched in 2005. The new car was a completely revamped version. It is one of the best cars in its class and the most luxurious and expensive model coming with the Toyota logo. The new Avalon featured a larger 3.5 L V6 engine with a power of 268 horses under the hood and a max torque of 248 lb/ft. The car has a 5 speed automatic transmission. It was also loaded with plethora of technology and gizmos. The car was pitched against the likes of Buick Lucerne and the Ford Taurus. The styling of the car is awesome, with clear sleek lines and soft layering. The shape is somewhat similar to the new HOnda Accord, with large tapering headlights. The 2007 model is also hailed to be one of the best cars in its class to hit the US market.
