The Belta is a four door sub-compact saloon from the Toyota lineup. It was launched din US in 2006, where it is marketed as Toyota Yaris. The car is a refined version of the old Platz or maybe the Vitz. Another version called the Scion xA is derived from the Yaris. The car is pitched in league with the Hyundai Accent, Nissan Versa, Honda Fit and the Kia Rio.
The Belta comes with a 4 door sedan and a 2 door hatchback version. The Hatchback has a more funkier look to it and targets the entry level younger generation. But the hatchback is not as spacious as the more contemporary sedan. The sedan is about 19 inches longer than the hatchback.
The interior of the Belta is is pretty decent with a lot of storage space. The instrument cluster, though, is a bit oddly placed above the center slack as opposed to the conventional behind the steering, which takes a little getting used to. The plastics used are of decent quality.
The engine is 1.5L 106 bhp with a 4 speed automatic and a 5 speed manual transmission. In terms of ride quality, the hatch is the better version. Though there is not too much power in the car, it does pretty fine on the road. The 106 bhp power comes at a high 6000 rpm. In terms of better performance, the 5 speed manual is better than the automatic to harness the power of the engine. Even though the power may be lax, it gives a very good mileage of over 35 miles per gallon in city conditions and over 40 in the highway. And the price doesn't bite either. The car comes at a base price of around $13,000, a pretty good deal indeed.
