Century is a four door limousine and the most luxurious model in the Toyota lineup. The century was first produced in 1967. The car has seen few changes since then. The second generation Century was launched in 1997. The most luxurious model in the series the Toyota Century Royal, a limited edition version, is owned by one other than Japanese Emperor Akihito. The car is mostly sold in Japan. and some other Asian countries. It is mostly pitched against the likes of S600 from Merc, the Rolls Royce Phantom or the Maybach limos. The car is almost wholly hand crafted with great regard to details. A very limited number of Centuries are produced in a year. It ia mostly used as official transportation of government leaders and heads of states. The first generation Century was based on another luxury model, the Toyota Crown. The car came with a 3.0 L 3V V8 engine with got later upgraded to 3.4 L 4V V8 and then 4.0 L 5V V8 in 1982. An L-Type stretch limo version with a length of 5270mm was also later introduced. The second generation Century comes with a massive 280 PS 5.0 L DOHC VVTi, V12 engine with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. The cars costs approximately US$120,000. |
