MR-S

MR S is the 3rd generation car of the MR-2 series also called the MR-2 Spyder. The car was launched in 1999 and will be in production till 2007. The MR-S is a light weighted 2-door convertible sports car. The two seater car has a mid sized 1.8L VVTi engine. The car is designed to be light and responsive. The car is a two seater. The design of the MR-S gives a urban roadster look, similar to the Porsche Boxter and the Lotux Elise. In fact MR-2's were produced in close association with Lotus.
The car is sold as MR-S in Japan and MR-2 Spyder in America. The engine mounted in the car is not the most powerful of the engines giving a modest 138 bhp but the car is very light weighing just 975kgs or 2150 lbs, which makes up for the loss of power. The handling is superb with a very responsive SMT 5 speed gearbox.
The main feature of the car is its urltra responsive handling. In fact is the best handling car of the MR-2 series. A seasoned sports car, the lack of power in the straits can be overcome by fitting the car with a much powerful 2ZZ-GE engine. Moverover, a turocharger can be fitted to make it a truely powerbreathing yet responsive sports car. Modified MR-S's have had their share of wins on tracks.
Although the car is quite popular with auto enthusiasts, the production of the car will be discontinued from 2007. To bid adeu to the ilustrious sports car, Toyota has launched a Limited edition MR-S V Edition. Only 1000 such cars will be produced.
