Sequoia is a four door, full sized SUV from the Toyota lineup. The car debuted in 2000. The Sequoia is pitched against other large SUV's such as Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Tahoe. The car was launched to fill the void for a large SUV from markets where the Land cruiser series was removed such as Canada. Sequoia is made on the same platform as the Toyota Tundra Pickup truck. It is on sale in USA and Canada only. The powerplant was a 4.7 L V8 engine giving a power output of 240 bhp. The transmission was 4 speed automatic. Much of the vehicles body as well as engine is taken from the Tundra. In 2004, the Sequoia was given an upgrade. It now featured a 4.7 L, 273 hp V8 engine with VVT-i technology. The transmission was also upgraded to 5 speed automatic from the previous 4 speed automatic. There is an optional rear wheel drive and four wheel drive version. The Sequoia has fared quite well in the american markets. It was even nominated for the 2001 North American Truck of the Year award.
The engine of the vehicle is also known for its low emissions. Particularly the V8 engine, which replaced the older one in 2004, is certified as Ultra Low Emission by the authorities. |
