Soarer

soarer toyota car models

The Toyota Soarer was a luxury coupe, first introduced in Japan in1981 and sold there till 2004. The car was similar to the Lexus SC, the luxury coupe, under the Lexus brand of luxury vehicles. In fact it is also known as Lexus SC. There have been 3 generations of the Soarer, the Z1 and the Z2 series being the first, the 30 series the second and lastly the 40 series. The Soarer was discontinued after 2004.

The first generation, the Z1 series was launched in 1981. The car was offered wuth a choice of 2.0L, 2.8L or 3.0L gasoline engines. The car was very well received in the Japanese market and was judged as the Car of the year for 1981. The trimlevels were GZ10, MZ10, MZ11, MZ12. The Z2 series was introduced in 1986 and was produced till the mid of 1991. The engine options were 2.0L DOHC, 2.0L twin turbo or naturally aspirated DOHC and 3.0L DOHC with turbocharger.

The 30 series or the Z3 was launched in Japan in 1991. The 30 series shared its body styling with the Lexus SC which was sold in other markets although the interiors and the powertrain of Soarer was quite different from the SC. The new Soarer was unique for its cutting edge technology and high end luxury features. The 30 series was one of the first cars to have GPS navigation and integrated EMV touch screen control. The car wa equipped with a 2.5GT twin turbo engine mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission .Further upgradation in the engine included 2.5L 6 cyl single turbo VVTi, 3.0L 6 cyl and 4.0L 8 cyl engines.

The 40 series was was launched in 2001 and was very much similar to the Lexus SC 430. Similar to the convertible Merc SL, the 40 series featured a power assisted self collapsible hard top. Car came fitted with 4.3 liter V8 VVTi engine giving a power output of 280 bhp and 430Nm of torque. In 2006, the Lexus SC 430 was introduced in Japan as well and the Soarer production was discontinued.
