Tarago

The Toyota Tarago is basically Australian version of the MPV Toyota Estima which is sold in Japan. It is also known as Toyota Previa. The Tarago is the successor to the Toyota Van, a very practical people mover. The Van has been replaced by the Sienna in North America.It is still sold by the name tarago in Australia.

The van is available in body style of 3 door or 4 door minivan. The car is similar to other MPV's such as Honda Odyssey and the Renault Espace and the Kia Carnival. The first generation Tarago was introduced in 1990 and continued for a decade with regular modifications and upgradations. Second generation was introduced in 2000. The car came with a choice of new 2.4L petrol and a 2.0L diesel engine. The car featured a standard 5 speed manual and optional 4 speed automatic transmission. The new generation Tarago removed the power blues which the previous version faced. The new tarago was based on the Camry platform. Even the headlights were similar to those of the CAMRY. Later on a hybrid car, Estima Hybrid was introduced in the Japanese market based on the celebrated Hybrid Synergy Drive technology of Toyota.

The 3rd generation of the car is available in Australia with a 2.4-litre VVT-i engine delivering 125kW of power @ 6000rpm and 224Nm of torque @ 4000rpm or 3.5-litre 6-speed V6 engine. Drive options available are either a 2WD or 4WD drivetrain. The trim levels available are GLi and GLX.

Some of the features added to the vehicle are Electronic Controlled Transmission (ECT), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) & Traction Control (TRC), ABS anti-skid brakes, Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), AVN Satellite Navigation, a standard feature of seven SRS airbags in GLX and optional in GLi and the new Pre-Crash Seatbelt System from Toyota. The GLi is priced at $ 48,990 and the GLX at $ 51,990.
